Stay Warm This Winter with the Fuel Assistance Program

Winter heating costs can be challenging, but New Hampshire’s Fuel Assistance Program (FAP) is here to help.

This initiative, part of the federal Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), provides critical support to households struggling to pay for heat.

How the Fuel Assistance Program Works

The program offers grants to eligible households, ranging from $100 to $2,177 based on income, energy costs, and housing type. These funds are a gift, not a loan—no repayment is required.

FAP can also provide emergency support, such as fuel deliveries, delaying utility shut-offs, or referrals to other resources.

Benefits are calculated to assist the most vulnerable households, with the average benefit being $1,284.17.

How to Apply

To apply, contact your local Community Action Agency (CAA).

These agencies handle applications and help determine eligibility.

You can also call 211 for assistance or visit the Community Action Agencies page for more details.

Winter Heating Tips

For residents heating with oil, kerosene, or propane:

  • Call your fuel supplier 10 days in advance of needing fuel.
  • Clear snow from your driveway, path, and fuel tank area.
  • Mark your tank with a visible flag and ensure house numbers are easy to see.
  • Keep exhaust vents free of debris to avoid blockages.

Stay safe and warm this winter.
